Have you ever wondered how to store or organise certain things, such as, pans, wood boards, etc on a budget?
Well… Not to worry momma! I got your back this time! This article is exactly what you need if you are looking for smart kitchen organization hacks, but you have a tight budget or, in some cases, no budget at all.
I know, from experience how badly you want to get things organised at home, but you feel like you need to step back because of the lack of money in the bank.
Therefore, I’m going to share with you my top organization hacks and ideas for your kitchen.
Why did I choose the kitchen? We all know how much time we as women spend in the kitchen, so why not make it super cute, organised and maximize space.
I’ve got a quite big kitchen but not as much storage as I’d like so I need to come up with clever solutions that would maximize the storage and utilize wasted space. That’s why I am on a mission to organise my entire kitchen. So, I thought it would be amazing to share some of the things I’ve done just in case you were looking for smart kitchen organization hacks.
But before we dive in, I’d like to say a huge thank you to Suzi that she allowed me to guest post on one of her blogs. I love her to pieces!
In the first part of this article I’m going to share with you how I find my storage bin and then in the second part of the article you’re going to see some kitchen organization hacks in action from my own kitchen.
1. How to find awesome storage when on a budget?
Storage can get really expensive, especially if you are trying to organize an entire house on a tight budget. So I’ve got some tips and ideas for you to find perfect storage solutions for your kitchen’s cupboards & cabinets.
For this section, Pinterest is going to be your best friend. You can find tons and tons of amazing ideas, so if you’re not using it for inspiration already, you definitely should.
- Recycle – I absolutely love recycling, especially for DIY projects. There are so many things you can use to create something cool and unique for your house. Pinterest is the best resource for you, so feel free to check it out. Just search “recycle ideas” and you’ll get hit with a lot of ideas.
- Repurpose – another thing I do very often. I am one of those people that will use shoe or cereal boxes to create drawer compartments. Easy & super convenient. Oh and also, if you have large cardboard boxes you can create your own storage boxes, like this one here.
- Second Hand Shops – you never know what gems you can find in second hand shops (in the UK are also called Charity Shops). I tend to go very often to check out the Home section. You can find amazing & unique pieces, but you do have to search for them.
- Poundland or Dollar Store – this is my ultimate favourite way of shopping for storage boxes and compartments. It’s great value for money, very versatile and you can use them for literally anything you’d like.
2. Kitchen Organization Hacks for Cupboards
We all know how nasty those cabinets can get over time, especially when you’re searching for something and you can’t find it.
You end up taking everything out, finding what you were looking for and then throw everything back in because you are in a hurry or you have a crying baby in the room.
Oops, sounds familiar? Eh, don’t worry, you’re not alone. Actually, it has happened to me so many times, that my entire house is a complete disaster after that.
2.1 Utilizing the Entire Space
This is one of my favourite cabinets that I recently organized. Generally speaking, there’s not a lot of space under the sink and it can get easily cluttered if you don’t have a system.
So I went on Pinterest for research and “stole” some ideas and then implemented my own so that it matches with what I had in my home.
You’ll always find “dead” space at the top of the cabinets, so why not do something smart to utilize the entire space. This DIY basket organizer is an amazing way to do so.
All you need is a couple of tension rods and some plastic baskets that I already had around the house. Lastly, I secured everything together with some zip ties. As I said, a perfect way of utilizing wasted space, that’s usually the top of a cabinet. It’s also a great way of hanging the most frequently used cleaning products.
I have to confess that, on the bottom part I don’t really have a system yet (I am still working on it). All I have is a basket that holds most of my cleaning supplies. I like to call it an organised mess…haha
Then in the front, I left an open space so that my food waste bin would go in. I really like it on the door.
2.2 How to store wooden boards?
If you have a few chopping boards, you’ll absolutely love this organisation hack. This is something my husband fitted for me a while back and it’s super convenient and useful. No more mess!
So this is actually a lid or pan holder that I found in a local supermarket. Initially, I wanted to keep my pans, but they are quite heavy too big for this holder (I have cast iron pan and huge veggie pan) so I decided to repurpose it.
We turned it around and secured it at the bottom of the cupboards so that it wouldn’t move. It’s great for easy access and handling of my chopping boards. I love that I can organize them by size, I can see them and grab whichever I want too without struggling.
3. Kitchen Organization Hacks for Drawers
Drawers can be quite difficult to organize, especially if you have tall ones as I do. When I moved into this house I didn’t really know what to store in there and how to utilize the entire space.
For one of the drawers, I decided to get some clear containers from Wilko to divide and categorize my kitchen utensils. For the next drawer, I wanted to get some tall storage bins (I found them in Poundland) so that I could achieve what I wanted. Maybe not the best idea because you can’t really see the bottom of the bin, but I still like it. I keep in there stuff that I don’t use on a daily basis.
I just recently came up with the idea to organize my plastic containers. Before I had them in a cupboard, but I was constantly searching for the matching lid.
So I decided to store them just like you see in the picture above. They are easy to access, everything it’s in the same place so I don’t have to search for a matching lid.
I just love how it turned out.
4. Kitchen Organization Hacks for Countertops
I don’t know about you, but in my world, countertops can get really busy. And if you don’t have a lot of storage and workspace you need to come up with solutions that would give you the uncluttered feeling.
This is how I organized my “busy” corner. I like to call it this way because this is where we keep most of our kitchen appliances. It’s also another wasted space if you ask me.
So in this case I used an expandable countertop shelf that would allow me store things both on top and underneath it.
I am so happy that I discovered them and I would probably use some more of them in the future, but for now, this is more than enough for what we have.
