Benefits Of Being A Work At Home Mom

Top 10 Benefits of Being a Work at Home Mom

Plus the best work from home resources that helped me find a job while staying home with my kids!

Inside: If you are thinking of making the switch to work at home or need reassurance on your decision, you will find that working from home as a mom with your children is the right choice!

Are you considering working from home as a mom?

There’s only so many things you can do with an infant before you get bored. You’ve read every board book, swung them on the playground swing a million times, and mashed bananas and avocados until both of you are tired of it. At this point, I decided that I needed to get out of baby talk mode and get into some serious adult work for my own mental health.

Whether you are currently a stay at home mom or a working mom, the fact that you are a mom hangs over your every decision. If you are a work at home mom, you can have the best of both worlds by staying with your children all of the time and making money for your family.

It might sound like a lot, but with the right routine (and distractions) you can make it work to work for your family. You will feel like a super woman and feel super fulfilled.

Ever since I became a part time work at home Mom, grading essays for a testing company, I have felt satisfied with my routine with the kids and excited for my own progress in my career. I always recommend it to any stay at home mom I know! (Especially those with a bad habit of Target and Starbucks…) If you have ever considered being a work at home mom, give it a try! The benefits are tremendous.

Top 10 benefits of being a being a work at home mom

You feel like you are contributing to the household finances/you have your own money!

  • When I was a stay at home mom, to be honest, I personally felt like I was inferior for not being able to contribute to the family finances. Every time I had to buy something, whether it was for groceries or for baby, I felt guilty for having to spend my husband’s money. Especially if I wanted to give myself a treat, that was out of the question to splurge my husband’s money! And if I wanted to give my husband a gift? It felt counterproductive to use his own money to get him a gift. I feel so free now that I have my own money to spend. I don’t have to worry about my husband working so hard to support us on one income.

No commute!

  • Working from home means you can commute from your bed to wherever your laptop is (maybe your laptop is in your bed 🙂 ). You save so much time and gas money and frustration by skipping the rush hours and staying at home. Ah what a relief.

No need to pay for expensive daycare/child-care

  • One of the main reasons I stopped working after I gave birth was because with the cost of childcare, I felt like I might as well stay home and raise my own child instead of working so hard to pay someone else to raise them. Having degrees in education and working at an elementary school, my salary was not exactly lucrative. So now that I am able to work from home instead of shoveling over my work pay directly to daycare pay, we are all greatly benefiting from gaining the second income and lacking the sitter expenses.

You have a greater goal/purpose

  • As much as you love your children, sometimes you need something else to look forward to, just for you. Even if being a mother is your main role, you are still the person you were before you were a mother. Honor yourself as a woman, not only as a mother, and hold on to your own dreams and goals. You can have personal goals as well as family goals to feel fulfilled. Your children will benefit from seeing their happy and motivated mommy too!

Keeps your resume full and active for if you decide to return to the workforce

  • If you are planning to return to a physical based job after the kids head off to school, your resume will not have a big gap in it. This makes it easier to stay sharp mentally and relevant in your field.

You are intellectually stimulated by adult projects/don’t feel so bored from only interacting with babies all day every day…

  • This is very important for the stay at home mom who is bored of talking baby talk and reading the same board books over and over. I’ve been there and I admit I’ve felt absolutely bored and dull from the lack of stimulation when “Hop on Pop” and peekaboo wasn’t cutting it for me anymore. I am fortunate to be able to work part time at home so that I can divide my attention between work and kids when the time is right.

Your schedule is flexible, and at the same time more important to stick to

  • You can work any time you want, but you must also make sure you have time to work. So you create a routine that your family can stick to, so that you get all of your work done for the day, and get your focused family time in too. Your children will fall into a nice rhythm to flow into day by day, and overall feel more comfortable with the predictability. Now, my 3 year old daughter knows when I take out my laptop that it’s time for me to work, so she gets to busying herself with painting, Paw Patrol, or princess play 🙂 Which leads to the point of children’s gained independence.

Your children gain independence by being busy while you’re busy

  • You don’t have to feel like you’re neglecting your child by doing your own thing while they’re doing their own thing. Preferably, you would work while they’re sleeping, but it doesn’t always work out that way. You can do your best to schedule nap time, as the importance of sticking to a schedule is mentioned in the previous tip, but kids don’t always sleep on time, at the same time, or for a long time. A nice long nap happens sometimes, but here are some amazing activities to get you started with working at home and keeping your children engaged in independent play/distracted! (and make sure you have lots of snacks handy! 😉 )
